Sleaford Mods are one of the most important, politically charged and thought-provoking duos making their mark on the music scene today. Renowned for exhilarating live shows, sharp commentary and minimalist beats, the band has spearheaded the post punk renaissance of the last five years.

Emerging onto the UK music scene in 2013 at a time of political and creative austerity, the Harbinger Sound released breakthrough album ‘Austerity Dogs’ caught the moment. Described by The Quietus as ‘a brutally brilliant slice of working class culture… soaked in the impossible realities of the everyday’, the success was a surprise for many, not least Andrew and Jason who had been making music individually twenty years to no acclaim.

The album, alongside an aggressive ‘small town’ UK tour laid the groundwork for the 2014 follow up ‘Divide & Exit’. Released in March the album was critically acclaimed and featured in the top 10 of album of the year charts across the music press, earning them an honorary mention from ‘The Mercury Prize’ in spite of not entering the competition. Much to fans delight the year also featured the five track ‘Tiswas’ EP, the ‘Fizzy’ EP, ‘Chubbed Up – The Singles Collection’ LP and the Bracketpress published ‘Grammar Wanker’, a book of Jason’s 2007 – 2014 lyrics which Iggy Pop, one of the bands most prominent enthusiasts, would later read from on his BBC 6Music shows.

Not ones to rest on their laurels, ‘Key Markets’ swiftly followed in July 2015 reaching number 11 in the UK album chart. The year also saw the band play a legendary performance on the John Peel stage at Glastonbury before cementing their position as the best band in the land with a magnificent turn on ‘Later… with Jools Holland’, gaining them the accolaide of Jools’ top 5 favourite performance of all time, sandwiched between Paul McCartney and Smokey Robinson.

A quiet year by the Mods standards, 2016 saw one of the legendary live performances captured on wax with the ‘Live at SO36’ LP, the final Harbinger Sound release. The dawn of a new era, a deal was signed with Rough Trade Records and the ‘TCR’ EP was recorded at Steve Mackey’s studio and released shortly after.

In 2017 to yet more acclaim their fourth studio album ‘English Tapas’ reached number 12 in the UK album chart and ‘Bunch of Kunst’ the award-winning documentary about Sleaford Mods unprecedented and meteoric rise through the music industry was released. The self-titled ‘Sleaford Mods’ EP followed in 2018.

There are few other bands who can lay claim to such a prolific schedule, yet here we are a year later and Sleaford Mods have released their fifth studio album in six years, ‘Eton Alive’.

Released on 22 February to yet more critical acclaim the album went straight in at number 9 in the UK Albums chart, number 1 in the UK Vinyl Chart and number 1 in the UK Record Store chart. The album, which features twelve new tracks, was recorded in Nottingham and is the first release on Andrew and Jason’s newly formed label ‘Extreme Eating’; the first album since amicably parting with Rough Trade Records.

„RVG evoke 80s Australian bands that crammed garage rock cred with sun-dappled hooks, such as Sunnyboys or the Go-Betweens. What makes these songs so moving is not Vager’s voice itself but her delivery. Her fierceness, her flow and how clear it is she’s singing about what she knows.” – Kate Hennessy, The Guardian
