We deeply regret the cancellation of the AL.Berlin Festival, though it is comprehensible considering the situation in the middle east. During the last three years the program of this festival was a great contribution to the program of Festsaal Kreuzberg and the Berlin clubculture. This is due to the work of the promoters and their purpose to not only entertain the audience but also to make Arabic, Palestinian and Middle Eastern modern music and culture visible. In our view it is very important to create events of this kind as spaces where progressive people can meet and exchange ideas.

Discussing the situation with the promoters of the Festival made us sad and hopeful at once. It showed us, that there are differences in views and political judgements on certain aspects. But on the other hand there is a mutual desire to support progressive and transformative forces in the middle east. A desire to learn each others perceptions and not to stop talking to each other. As a company committed to human rights with a humanistic approach we condemn all kinds of discrimination and pay attention to not letting them happen, where we have any influence.

The fact that artists who played at our location have to fear for their lives in the face of this conflict is devastating. Our empathy is for both - the Palestinian citizens of Gaza, Israeli citizens and especially the hostages. We are looking forward to discuss the possibilities of future events with the AL.Berlin Crew. This we sense as a great opportunity and hope for a brighter future in these dark days.
