1990 How it all began

In the early '00s, a former vegetable market near Kottbusser Tor is transformed into a wedding hall. It is beloved by Berlin's migrant community; for example, traditional Turkish, Indian or Nigerian family celebrations take place here.

2004 Establishment

An association of event organizers takes over the Festsaal Kreuzberg. Family parties continue to take place until 2007, as well as indie rock concerts, techno parties, political discussion groups and readings. The club establishes itself as a popular venue in Berlin. The operators of the Festsaal also open other clubs and bars in the centre of Kreuzberg right next door - the Fahimi Bar, the Monarch and the Paloma Bar.

2013 Fire

Due to a technical defect, the Festsaal is completely gutted by fire in July. The operators do everything they can to rebuild the venue and receive considerable support from the Berlin cultural scene. However, the reconstruction fails due to the interests of the property owner, who wants to construct an office building.

Today

At the new location, the cultural and musical aspects of the early days are continued. In this way, a Berlin institution for cross-genre pop culture continues to exist and develops into a solid medium-sized enterprise. The program consists of pop, punk, jazz, reggae, electronic, and experimental music, but lectures, conferences, readings, company celebrations, and award ceremonies also take place in the Festsaal Kreuzberg.
